In a festival of racing yesterday in the magnificent setting of Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, there were a couple of good performances from young City of Lisburn AC athletes.

The Celtic Nations cross country races and the Great Edinburgh junior and senior cross-country events were part of the schedule which included the live televised international races later in the programme.

Zoe Carruthers went in the 4k combined under 17 and under 20 event featuring a host of junior international stars including the winner, Team GB’s Emilia Gorecka who became European Junior champion just before Christmas. Zoe ran well to place 44th overall, to finish as 2nd Ulster under 17 scorer and finishing ahead of a number of her under 20 team-mates. Her placing in the under 17 event was a impressive 9th – a very good run at this level.

Meanwhile Madison Bowyer had a memorable trip to Scotland, placing a superb 2nd in the 11-13 age group 2.5k Junior Greast Edinburgh Cross event earlier in the day – another superb run by the promising youngster. Both races were started by Scottish former world 10,000 champion Liz McColgan.

Congratulations to the young athletes on their excellent runs.
