The first day of the Scottish Indoors Championships in the fantastic Emirates Arena proved a very fertile hunting ground for the small group of travelling U18 and U20 CoLAC athletes.
7 athletes. 8 medals and 8PB is a good return by any measure.
Our first event was the U20 Shot where Karl produced a new PB of 8.69m, narrowly missing the bronze medal by 3cms.
One of our youngest athletes, Connor, went next in the 800m and will undoubtedly have gained valuable experience in this large event which he can use when he is still eligible for this age category next year.
On the straight Ben and Gareth were paired together through heats, semi and final of the U18 60m with both producing PBs (Ben 7.40s and Gareth 7.32s) on the way before Gareth lifted the bronze medal.
Karl and Christian also both ran PBs of 7.14s and 7.30s respectively in the U20 60m with Karl ending up with a silver medal to boot.
Christian got a medal of his own in the 60m Hurdles with his photo finish third place in that final.
Back in the field events we had yet more success with Jonny long jumping his way to a bronze medal with a new PB of 6.37m ahead of Christian in 4th before Jonny moved across to the Triple Jump for his second bronze of the day.
Ben continued the trend with another bronze in the U18 LJ with a series of 3 jumps of 6m and above.
Our only female athlete today, AnnaMcI got a little medal action of her own with her SB High Jump of 1.60m for our 6th bronze of the day.
Back on the track we had Karl in action in the U20 200m where his PB of 23.18s was very unfortunate to miss out on a place in the final.
Gareth meanwhile battled his way through a further series of heats, semi and final, picking up another PB of 23.31s on his way to his second bronze of the day in the U18 200m.
Many thanks to Annie, Wendy and Andrea for organising this trip for their athletes and well done to them all for such a fantastic day’s work.
