NI and Ulster Championships Day 3. U16 / U17 14th June 2014

The final day of these Championships had plenty of CoLAC interest and success. This part of the Championship was held in Antrim in good conditions with sun screen required instead of life rafts!
Most ages had their 1500m today starting with the U14 boys where JoshP ran well. The U15 boys race saw CallumM take 5th in 4.46.44 ahead of team mate Sean in 6th. The U15 girls race was won in very impressive style by OliviaN in a PB time of 4.54.8 ahead of KateG. Maddie took 5th in the U17 girls event while Jake and TomB lifted a silver each in the boys U16 and U17 events respectively. MatthewN also ran well in the U16 boys 3000m.
Therese had a great day over the hurdles taking silvers in both the sprint and 250m races over the barriers with Ellie lifting bronze in the 80m hurdles . The U17 boys 100m hurdles event was cancelled as BenF was the only entrant.
Ciaran ran an impressive 40.53s in the U17 boys 300m hurdles for gold.
The U17 boys were also very strong in the sprints with BenF lifting gold in the 100m in a PB 11.33s ahead of Conor in 4th (12.06s) and TomM in 5th (12.10s) before Conor took a medal of his own in the 200m, his PB time of 24.64 enough for bronze ahead of TomM in 5th again.
Jess claimed silver in the U17 girls 200m in 26.98s with SarahH running well in the heats of the U16 girls event.
Our 400m runners in the U17s acquitted themselves well with SophieH (1.06.3)taking 6th and Ryan (56.6) 4th in their respective events both in PBs.
We had an even more successful day in the field events starting with the U16 boys where Robbie won the gold with his 1.90m clearance and JoshA took silver with his PB leap of 1.65m. KatieO’R lifted bronze in the U16 girls event and Phoebe took gold in the U17s.
AnnaM and Cara took a gold each in the Senior and U18s HJ respectively and AdamH cleared a fantastic PB 1.96m for gold in the Senior men’s event. All of those having been delayed from last Saturday due to the unsafe conditions.
Ellie took a gold in the U16 girls PV with a vault of 2.40m.
More success for our athletes in the throws where Alix won the U16 girls Shot and SarahW lifted silver in the U17 event. SarahW then took yet another silver in the javelin ahead of LaurenR in bronze medal position. Lauren then took silver in the discus too.
Our triple jumpers had a fantastic day with JoshA improving his PB by a metre with his 11.65m jump to claim gold in the U16s before Mark took the gold in the U17 event with his 13m plus jump. Ryan also jumped a PB for 4th in that event and Jess took 3rd in the U17 girls competition.
Jess took her 3rd medal of the day in the U17 girls LJ before BenF and Mark combined for a 1, 2 in the U17 boys event. Ben’s leap of 6.94m taking him to the top of the Uk rankings.
So, 13 Golds, 11 Silvers and 5 Bronze medals for CoLAC athletes today.
