Odyssey NI & Ulster age group champs day 2

Day two of the N. Ireland and Ulster Indoor Juvenile Championships at the Odyssey was another successful one for City of Lisburn AC, with a further 5 medals bringing the total haul for the weekend to 18! Anna McImoyle took the first title of the day in the 1996 girls high jump, clearing 1.55m for gold to go with her hurdles medal from day 1. Jane Anderson set an indoor PB of 1.50m while finishing 4th in the same competition, only missing out on a medal on countback. Kathryn Case was 8th with 1.35m.

In the 1996 girls shot Kathryn threw a PB by some 30cms in the 3rd round to move into 3rd place with 7.92m. However, club-mate Aoibhin McManus produced a big PB of her own with her final round effort to snatch an unexpected bronze a mere 1cm ahead of Kathryn with 7.93m! Aoibhin’s excellent championships continued with gold in the long jump with a great 4.93m indoor PB to give her a first indoor title to go with the Irish outdoor titles she has won. She later not only made the final of the 60m with an 8.59s PB but came so close to another medal with a super run for 4th place. This meant that with her relay medal from day 1 she had achieved the rare feat of medalling in a throw, a jump and a track event!

Erin Quinn can usually be relied on for a medal and she flew round the Odyssey Arena in an indoor PB of 27.25s in her 200m heat to qualify fastest for the final. However, she was unable to improve upon her performance from the heat and had to settle for bronze in the final. She was only 2cms from another medal in the long jump, being pushed from 2nd to 4th in the final round with Kathryn Case 6th from the large field of 18.

Rebecca Harvey finished 3rd in the 800m last year but improved to silver this time in an indoor PB of 2:29 after a mature performance which saw her control the pace of the race from the front .

So overall a fantastic two days for the club, with everyone now looking forward to the remaining age-groups and events in Magherafelt on 05 March.
