Thomas leads PB’s at N Down AC Open meet

Fri 20 April 2012--admin

A handful of City of Lisburn athletes made the trip to Bangor Sportsplex on Tuesday for North Down AC’s open meet. Conditions were cool and breezy which seemed to hold back track and jump performances a little. The throwers were less affected with a couple of PBs from our athletes on the night although frustratingly the throws are not included on the official results as yet.

Well done to all Lisburn athletes for their performances on a cold night and thanks to North Down for hosting the meet.

Sprints

Andrew Hutchinson has just returned from some warm weather training in Portugal recently and tested his speed here in the 150m. Running in race two he placed 4th in 18.26 into a headwind. Another U17 athlete Erin Quinn ran a useful 44.07s to win the Senior 300m by nearly 2 seconds. Erin will compete over this distance as part of the NI team at the UK School Games in Olympic Stadium in a couple of weeks time.

High Jump

Anna McIlmoyle placed 3rd in 1.45m just ahead of Phoebe Tan who was best U15 with 1.40m while there was a PB from Sarah Woods (also U15) with 1.30m.

Of the boys, Andrew Hutchinson’s 1.70m only saw him lose out on countback to N. Down’s Commonwealth decathlete Tom Reynolds, while behind him NI U14 indoor champion Thomas Quinn recorded one the best club performances of the night with a 1.55m PB.

Throws (Results unofficial)

At the shot, Sarah Woods backed up her big throw when winning the Edwards and Co U15 gold last week with another good effort here with the 3.25k implement of 8.44m. Another 13 year old Matthew Dalton threw 9.94m with the 4k.

Matthew was a little disappointed with his shot but made amends with a great 32.08m javelin PB while Sarah also recorded a PB with her first competitive 20m throw. These throws were both in excess of the Power of Ten standards and the athletes will be eagerly anticipating official confirmation of the performances.
