MOIRA XC 2012 – Report

Sat 14 January 2012--admin

Numbers at our own Moira Cross-Country were well up on last year while the weather was kind with a crisp, dry day. Eric, Davy and their teams of helpers worked hard all day to ensure the race programme ran smoothly – which was made easier thanks to Championchip’s support as well.

City of Lisburn successes were as follows:-

Primary Schools race – 1k

With medals for the first five it was great to see Rebecca Wallace and Olivia Neill in the prizes in second and third with Lauren Wylie 8th and Alex Wylie 13th. For the boys Ben Ritchie was first Lisburn athlete home in 5th while Ben Gibson was 13th.

Year 8 race – 1 mile

Matthew Neill had an excellent run for 3rd in this race with Sean Terek in 8th.

Year 9 & 10 race – 2 miles

Tom Baird had a brilliant run to take 2nd place here with Lucy Smyth first Lisburn athlete home in the girls’ race in 10th position just ahead of Natalie Fair who was 12th.

Under 18 race – 3 miles

Jonny Whan has had a great winter on the country and ran well again here for 3rd despite a fall.

Senior and Masters Women – 3 miles

Lynn Lyness beat some good athletes on her way to 8th position while Diane Watson was 23rd and 4th F35. Congratulations to Lagan Valley who took home the team prize ahead of North Down and Dromore.

Senior and Masters Men – 4 miles

2012 men’s captain Declan Morgan managed to field a team of 6 gents in the final race of the day. Chris Madden was first home in 7th place – a really good run by young Chris. Michael Dobbs was next home in 11th with Declan himself third team scorer in 35th place. This left the team third behind winners North Belfast Harriers and Lagan Valley AC. Michael McLarnon was 40th, Eric Frizzell 50th (just missing the M60 prize as he was second in his age-category) and Dave McLarnon 52nd (and 4th M50).

Thanks to all the athletes from every club who ran today for supporting the event – we look forward to welcoming you back to Moira in 2013!
