Winter long throws Meet No. 2

Sun 29 January 2012--admin

Although the Mary Peters Track was closed yesterday morning due to ice, conditions improved enough by lunchtime to allow the second of this winter’s long throws meets to proceed. Several City of Lisburn junior athletes took the chance to compete, with the Under 17s having an eye on selection for the UK School Games in the Olympic Stadium in May.

Ronan Jenkinson had his first competition with the U17 700g javelin and threw 36.50m for second place before straining a back muscle in round three. Michael Logan was also having his first throw with a new weight of implement, this time the U17 1.5k discus. He also placed second after throwing 30.47m.

Sarah Woods was the only U15 girl throwing and was herself also adjusting to competition with the heavier implements. She managed bests of 16.08m with the discus and 18.65m with the javelin with one marginal foul around the 20m mark.

Meet no. 3 next week features hammer and javelin.
