Irish Schools XC – Silver for Zoe!

It was the turn of Galway this year to host the Irish Schools cross-country championships, with four City of Lisburn AC athletes making the trip after having qualified through the recent Ulster Schools championshuips at Mallusk.

In the Minor Girls’ race, Madison Bowyer was a very respectable 8th place (and 2nd Ulster athlete). Maddy found herself boxed in without much rooom to pass in what was a very tight course but should be happy with her good run and position here.

Zoe Carruthers has gone from strength to strength on the mud this winter, producing an exceptional performance here to finish 2nd, guaranteeing her a place on the Irish Team for the Schools International cross-country. She was in 4th place for much of the race but attacked hard on the final hill to pass all but one of those athletes ahead of her and claim the silver medal.

Tom Baird has had a good cross-country season and ran well again for 23rd in the Junior Boys race while Rebecca Harvey was 38th in the Inter Girls’ event.

Well done to all the Lisburn athletes and especially Zoe who will now gain her first Irish vest!
