Mollie shines at Edwards and Co Meet 2

A cold and blustery but dry Antrim Forum was the venue last Thursday night for the second Edwards and Co meet in this year’s series, where numbers seemed to be a little down overall with the necessary change in venue. However, despite the Young Athletes League match two days later City of Lisburn still brought a decent sized squad of athletes to support the event.

Many of the athletes returned home with something to show for their efforts whether in medals or PBs with the sprinters taking full advantage of a 5 m/s wind at their backs. The club’s total medal haul this time out was an impressive 23 medals. Medallists as follows:-

Under 11 – 7 medals

There was a Lisburn 1-2 in the 80m for Ben Gibson and Hugo Ellerby with Ben dipping below 12 seconds (11.98s), while Anna Hill placed 3rd in the girls’ race with 12.84s. In the 1000m Hugo was 2nd in 3:41.83 while Rebecca Wallace was 2nd in her race in 3:47.45. At shot the promising all-rounder Ben Gibson was 1st in 5.77m ahead of Josh Ritchie who was 2nd with 4.79m.

Under 13 – 9 medals

City of Lisburn have some super young sprinters in this age-group, with a clean sweep in the boys’ 100m here with all three running windy PB’s. Louis McGuckian was 1st in 13.73s ahead of Josh Armstrong’s 13.95s and Bradley Mulholland’s 14.00s. Anna McCauley had a great win in her 100m in 14.42s. At shot Bradley was first with 5.99m just ahead of Ben Ritchie who was 2nd, while Olivia Savage won gold in the javelin with 13.91m. At high jump Josh was 1st with 1.20m with Bradley winning his 3rd medal of the evening after jumping 1.15m for silver.

Under 15 – 5 medals

Ciaran Barnes was blown to a huge PB of 12.44s while placing 2nd in the 100m in this age-group although probably the club performance of the night overall was Mollie Newell winning her 100m in a 13.15m PB. Zoe Carruthers took home a bronze for her run of 5:14.22 in the 1500m while in the field there were well-deserved medals for Phoebe Tan at long jump (4.25m – bronze) and Sarah Woods in the javelin (19.15m – silver).

Under 17 – 1 medal

Ronan Jenkinson had a PB with the 5k shot of 10.72m which won him a silver.

Senior – 1 medal

Adam Hill won the senior high jump with another 1.80m clearance.

Well done to all our medallists and thanks to hosts Lagan Valley AC for another good night of competition.
