Five City of Lisburn AC athletes were in action today at the Olympic Stadium which was the venure for the UK School Games. Our athletes were selected as the sole representative in their events for a Northern Ireland U17 Schools Team which took on athletes from Wales, Scotland and five English regions.

Andrew Hutchison was the first in action, competing very well at high jump where he set an outdoor PB with a 2nd time clearance at 1.85m which left him 5th. Jane Anderson went in the 80m hurdles, and was challenging for a medal in 3rd place mid-race before hitting a hurdle very heavily which caused her to lose balance and finish 6th in 12.44s (+0.3 m/s).

Roseanna McGuckian is the youngest member of this squad but produced one of the best N. Ireland performances of the day with a superb PB run of 25.39s for 4th place (wind reading unavailable). This now moves her into 9th on the UK rankings at U17 depite being only a few weeks overage to compete at U15 level. Aoibhin McManus was 6th in the long jump after a 5.23m final round effort, but produced a good series of 5 metre-plus jumps again.

In the relays, Erin Quinn led off for the N-Ireland U17 4×300 girls who were 8th in 2:54.07, with Erin recording an unofficial spit of 42 seconds for her leg. Later on Roseanna was in action for the 4×100 squad who flew to a superb time of 48.08s to finish 4th.

Congratulations to all the young City of Lisburn athletes on their good performances while representing Northern Ireland on an occasion they will never forget and which will hopefully inspire them to challenge for more international honours in future.
