Ulster Schools Preview

Thu 17 May 2012--admin

This weekend is one of the most important on the calendar for the dozens of City of Lisburn athletes who have qualified for the Ulster Schools track and field championships at Antrim.

Good luck from everyone at the club to all our athletes who will be after PB’s, medals, titles and Irish Schools qualifying places. In favourable conditions there may even be one or two records that could come under threat – all eyes will be on the clock as Megan Marrs (75m hurdles) and Roseanna McGuckian (200m) line up in the Junior Girls age group.

The action starts on Friday afternoon where amongst our throwers competing Natalja Ritchie (Junior), Josh Jordan (Junior) and Kathryn Wallace (Senior) will all be challenging for hammer titles.

On Saturday the intermediate girls’ sprint hurdles will feature the in-form Jane Anderson up against defending champion Anna McIlmoyle in what could be one of the races of the afternoon.

The intermediate boys category will see Lisburn flyers Aaron Dalzell and Stuart McEwan going for gold in the sprints with Andrew Hutchison looking like the man to beat in the high jump.

In the Junior Boys’ age group Matthew Dalton will be challenging for titles in both shot and javelin with Ben Fisher amongst the favourites in the 80m hurdles and long jump.

In the Junior Girls Katie Larmour and Mollie Newell are amongst the favourites in the sprints with Rebekah Douglas looking in the form to take a medal in the 800. Megan will be looking to do a double in the high jump as well as her hurdles with Jessica McMaster aiming for gold in the long jump.

Apart from those mentioned there are a load more who will be heading to Antrim in good shape and confident of good performances, so here’s to a load of medals for the City of Lisburn gang!
