IRISH SCHOOLS RESULTS

It was a very successful outing for the CoLAC athletes representing their schools at the Kit Kat All Ireland Schools? Track and Field 2007 Championships at Tullamore on Saturday.
The first of the four gold medals was won by Ciara Mageean with a terrific performance in the Intermediate Girl?s 3000 metres; Ciara destroyed the opposition with a powerful display of front running in very windy conditions, to win the event by over eleven seconds in 10mins 14.33 seconds. The second Gold medal was won by Laura Mc Burney in the Junior Girls 75m Hurdles, a new event this year for Laura in which she demonstrated beautiful hurdling technique to win by a huge margin in 11.68 seconds. Karyn Dumigan competing in the Junior Girls Triple jump, also a new event for Karyn, competed well to finish with a Bronze medal jumping 9.65 metres. Debbie Porteous concentrated on just one event this year due to an injury and was rewarded with a victory in the Intermediate Triple Jump in a very tough competition where only fifty centimetres separated the first five competitors. Gold medals was won by Linzi Herron in the Senior Girls Triple Jump Linzi?s
combination measured 11.38 metres, almost twenty centimetres ahead of the next athlete. Linzi also won a silver medal in the Long Jump, leaping 5.56 metres.
Samantha Miskelly had a bad fall in the Inters? 300m Hurdles from a Gold medal contending position and was unable to finish the race, but demonstrating sheer determination won Silver in the 80mH. In the Inter Boys? 400 metres, Josh Williamson gained the Silver medal in a very closely contested final which required the judges to analyse the photo finish which eventually awarded Josh his Silver.
Ruth Gillispie had the toughest combination of the day?s athletics, running both the
3000m and 1500m in which Ruth attained both Silver and Bronze medals respectively. Shannon Brush who just recently moved up to the Intermediate 300m finished sixth in a time of 45.4 seconds and lastly the Senior Boy?s 4x100m relay gained Silver for Grosvenor Grammar using three Colac athletes Mark Atkinson, Kyle Kirkpatrick and Gareth Mongomery.
