Louis and Lauren star at Edwards & Co Meet 3

Fri 1 June 2012--admin

Conditions were excellent for the Edwards and Co Meet 3 in the Lagan Valley AC series at Antrim last night. Numbers of athletes and supporters seemed a little smaller than normal, probably mainly due to the school exam season. However, quite a few members of the City of Lisburn junior squad took a break from their studies and made it worthwhile by recording many PBs and bringing home 16 medals.

Those athletes in the prizes included:-

Under 11 – 4 Medals

Ben Gibson has shone in this series of meets so far and he picked up two more medals here – a gold at 150m in 21.66s and also a long jump silver in 3.53m. Over 1200m Rebecca Wallace earned a bronze with a run of 4:49.66. Erin Fisher continued her good run in this series with silver in the long jump in 3.22m, despite forgetting her spikes!

Under 13 – 6 Medals

Louis McGuckian is better known as a sprinter / long jumper but he turned his hand to the throws with some success here, winning the javelin with a fine effort of 23.71m. He earlier won his 200 m in a PB of 28.03s. Bradley Mulholland did well with a 200m bronze in 28.44s plus bronze in the javelin. At high jump Josh Armstrong got the silver after a good jump of 1.35m while Christopher Larmour did well again with a bronze in 1.30m.

Under 15 – 4 Medals

The girls’ shot putt saw a Lisburn 1-2-3 after a great competition. After the 2nd round Sarah Woods led Alix Galbraith by a single cm with her 7.68m effort, with Lauren Rea just behind in 3rd. However, in the fourth and final round Lauren produced a superb PB throw of 7.79m to clinch gold, with silver for Sarah and bronze for Alix in 3rd. Mollie Newell’s good season continued with another win over 200m in a time of 27.72m.

Under 17 – 2 Medals

Fionntan Curran won a tight high jump competition thanks to a first time clearance at an outdoor PB of 1.60m. Caroline Woods won her first athletics medal on her City of Lisburn debut and it was a gold thanks to her shot PB of 5.24m.

Congratulations to all those City of Lisburn medallists mentioned above.
