As Ireland’s current top female sprinter, City of Lisburn’s Amy Foster was in action in Florida again at the weekend as she is determined to continue her quest for fast times in this all important athletics season encompassing the European Championships and Olympic Games. This weekend Amy had to settle for slower times than those set the previous week because of a swirling wind and at times heavy rain.

She ran a solid 11.62 secs against a head wind which was short of her recent wind assisted time of 11.32 secs. She has now returned home to recommence training while awaiting the Irish Athletics announcement in a week’s time concerning the team for the European Championships in Helsinki at the end of the month. Everyone in the club will keep their fingers crossed for Amy, that she she will get selected on the basis of consistently good times generally and specifically her 11.49 seconds NI record equalling time from last year. This is only 0.04 secs short of the European “A” time which is one of the selection criteria. In addition she has run the “B” standard on eight occasions.
