Chris and Brendan star at Bangor Open meet

A handful of City of Lisburn AC athletes made the short trip to Bangor Sportsplex on Tuesday evening for the latest Athletics NI open meet. Conditions were calm although damp with the temperature cool for June. Despite a wet circle there was some outstanding throwing in the discus competition with both the winning male and female athlete recording PB’s. This included our own Chris Reynolds who had a massive best of 45.15m while North Down’s Beth Wilson is congratulated on her great 41.05m effort.

While Chris’s throw was undoubtedly the best male field performance of the night, Brendan Murphy’s 400m win in 49.82s SB was possibly the pick of the male track performances.

Of the junior athletes, Sam Wallace wasn’t quite able to reproduce the 5 metre jumps he has managed in training recently but still added almost a metre to his long jump PB with 4.95m to place 3rd U17. In the high jump he produced his 2nd best ever mark with 1.51m for 2nd place while at 200m he ran 28.88s.

Sarah Woods gave further indication of her progress this season with three PB’s from her three events. At 200m she ran a 30.72s having earlier cleared 1.31m at high jump. At long jump she made a breakthrough, jumping over 4 metres for the first time in competition with a best of 4.33m which is just above the NI U15 Power of Ten benchmark of 4.30m.

Thanks to ANI and hosts North Down AC for another good night of athletics.
