Hurdles silver for Megan at AAA’s

City of Lisburn had two athletes in the small Athletics NI team who were in action at a very warm Bedford at the weekend at the AAA U15 and U17 championships. Competing against the very best young athletes in the UK the girls did well and can be proud of their performances.

Megan Marrs took advantage of the baking hot Mondo track on Sunday afternoon to set an 11.32s (+ 0.5) 75m hurdles PB to win her semi-final. This great run saw her qualify as 2nd fastest for the final.

In the final Megan secured a well deserved silver in 11.43s (-1.3) – a fabulous achievement by the talented athlete and another AAA medal to go with her high jump silver from the indoor season.

Megan was also in action on the Saturday in the 100m, running a 12.67s (+1.2) to finish 5th in her semi-final. Unfortunately for Megan the athletes in the first semi-final benefited from a + 5.3 m/s tailwind and so both “fastest losers” unsurprisingly came from that race.

Roseanna McGuckian stormed into the U17 200m final as an automatic qualifier with a 25.37s PB (-0.6) 3rd place finish in her semi-final. She then improved to a great 25.32s (+ 0.5) PB when placing 5th in the final. This was another example of Roseanna performing well at the biggest meets and a very encouraging performance as she is still an U17 next year.

Jane Anderson, who is another of our many good young hurdlers, travelled over as an individual to compete in the U17 80m hurdles where she was 6th in heat 2 in 12.65s (+ 0.6).
