CoLAC girls 8th in National League Final

The City of Lisburn senior women were in action at Tullamore on Sunday past in the All-Ireland National League premier division final. It was a good achievement to qualify for the final again (after last qualifying in 2010) but naturally the standard was very high. Our young team battled well and did the club proud but ultimately finished in 8th position.
Congratulations to Linzi Herron who was the only winner on the day with a super 5.89m long jump PB. Hollie Johnston scored good points in the triple jump, with her 10.25m effort placing her 4th, while sprinter Erin Quinn helped out in the high jump with 8th place in 1.25m.
Other highlights included a 6th place 15.67m PB for Libby Rose in the 100m hurdles where she lined up beside Irish international star Derval O’Rourke. Libby had a busy day, placing 5th in the 400m hurdles and 7th in the shot.
Amanda Mitchell was 6th in the discus with 22.01m while Hollie Johnston was 7th in the javelin with 22.27m. Kathryn Wallace had another 6th place with her 31.01m throw in the hammer.
Rounding up the track action, Aoibhin McManus was 6th at 100m with 13.50s , Erin Quinn was also 6th at 200m with 27.26s while it was 6th again for Michelle Rodgers over 400m in 61.15s.
Kelly Neely came straight to Tullamore from Dublin airport on Sunday morning after a race in Europe the previous night. When leading the 800m she unfortunately had to pull up with a tight calf but her amazing effort in getting to Tullamore at all was an inspiration to the rest of the team.
Judith Lowry tackled the tough 1500 / 3000 double to score good points for her team. She placed 5th in a 10:31 PB over the 3k before making a useful 4:54 debut over 1500m for another 6th place.
Finally, Team Manager Annie Rose did her duty in the 1500m walk, finishing in – you guessed it – 6th! So overall congratulations to the entire team including those who participated in the qualifying rounds but were unavailable for the final. It was good work to make it to our 2nd final in 3 seasons, and with a young squad hopefully we will return next year.
