Athletics NI have published the official 2010 N. Ireland and Ulster Track and Field ranking lists, put together so diligently by John Glover and team. There are many City of Lisburn athletes featuring in the Senior top 10’s across the full spectrum of events.

In the ladies’ track events Laura McBurney was 6th fastest senior over 100m, while in the 400m Erin McIlveen and Lyndsey Monteith were 8th and 9th respectively. Our Commonwealth stars Kelly McNeice and Ciara Mageean were 1 and 2 in the 800m and were joined in the top 10 by Christine Long at 6th and Rachel Gibson at 8th. In the 1500m Ciara and Kelly swapped positions with Ciara’s N.I. record topping the pile. In the sprint hurdles schools champion Libby Rose was 6th best senior while in the one lap hurdles Erin was 4th, Libby 9th and Lyndsey 10th.

In the field Linzi Herron was No. 1 in the high jump where she was just ahead of Anna McIlmoyle in 3rd. Anna achieved an outstanding senior ranking for an U15 girl with her 1.63m at the Scottish Juniors.  However the youngest athlete featuring was another U15 Lisburn athlete, Jane Atkinson who squeezed into the senior top 10 with 1.54m. In the Triple Jump Hollie Johnston’s performance at the Ulster Schools ranked her 8th senior with Karyn Dumigan 10th, while in the long jump Linzi was 4th and NI Junior Heptathlon champion Karyn 10th again.

In the throws the ladies also featured well. Schoolgirl Kathryn Wallace made the senior hammer lists at no. 9, with Carys Greenwood, still U17 next year an excellent 5th in the discus. Laura Kerr was 4th in the shot and 1st in her speciality javelin.

A couple of the men also featured well up the Senior Top 10 lists. On the track Brendan Murphy was 8th best over 200m but his 49.2 sec 400m at a British league match in Liverpool ranked him top at 400m. He also featured at 3rd in the 400m hurdles. In the field N. Ireland Senior discus champion Chris Reynolds was at no. 2 in the lists with Jonny McWhinney at 7th in the Hammer.

Well done to all Lisburn athletes featuring. Ciara’s N. Ireland record is undoubtedly the highlight this year, and hopefully an inspiration for many younger club athletes to improve onwards and upwards into these lists.
