Fri 20 August 2010--admin

Thursday night saw the final meet of this season’s excellent Lagan Valley Super 5 series. Conditions were damp and events were still taking place well after 9.30pm but there was a good medal haul as usual from the City of Lisburn squad.

Olivia Savage had an excellent series of throws in the 99-01 shot. Leading from round one, she improved with each throw with a great 5.24m in the final round for gold and the only 5 metre throw of the night for a great victory against girls up to 2 years older. In the same age group Rebekah Douglas took silver in the 150m with Grace Hilman 4th. In the 1997-98 girls, Jessica McMaster has had a number of good performances across a range of events recently and this time won the 200m convincingly in 28.99s and added silver in the long jump with 4.29m.

Scottish U15 medallist Erin Quinn won the 95-96 girls 200m by exactly a second in 28.20s and took bronze in the long jump, losing the silver only on next best jump to clubmate Jane Atkinson who also had a best jump of 4.25m. In the 93-94 discus Caris Greenwood added yet another gold to her tally this season with Amanda Mitchell improving to over 20 metres for bronze.

There were also many good performances from the boys with Bradley Mulholland leading the way with 1st place in the 99-01 150m. He was also 5th in the shot just behind Simon McMaster. Cameron McAteer and Ben Fisher picked up silver and bronze in the 97-98 200m, with the same boys 3rd and 4th respectively in the long jump.

Ulster Schools 200m champ Josh Garnham took gold in his speciality in 24.92s in the 95-96 age-group with Kaddum Hasson 4th. In the Senior throws Jonny McWhinney was 2nd in the discus and 1st in the javelin with two throws of over 35m.

For some this was the final meet of a successful season although many of the young athletes are now looking forward to the multi-event champs at Bangor next weekend.
