AAI Premier league final

The City of Lisburn Senior women’s squad travelled to Tullamore at the weekend for the grand finale of the Athletics Ireland season, the AAI League finals. The girls had performed strongly in the qualifying rounds to join Ballymena and Antrim in the 8 team Premier league All-Ireland final.

Caris Greenwood has had a great first season with the club and secured the only Lisburn win of the day in her speciality discus with another 30m throw, just shy of her PB. She also helped out in the shot where she was 8th. Linzi Herron had a great afternoon, placing second in the long jump with 5.61m ahead of Commwealth Games selection Joanna Mills. Linzi was also 3rd in the high jump and 5th in the 100m.

Leigh Whiteside ran well for 3rd in the 200m and also took 5th in the 400m. The consistent Rachel Gibson was 5th in the 800m in 2m 21s and Lyndsey Monteith was also 5th in the 1500m. Erin McIlveen was 4th witha good 65 secs in the 400mH and Sam Miskelly was 7th in the 100mH. Sylvia Rose took 5th in the Triple Jump in a very respectable 9.91m and was also 7th in the javelin. Amanda Mitchell’s 20m hammer throw was good enough for 5th on her senior club debut.

The team could perhaps have been strengthened by a few athletes who were competing in Scotland the same weekend but those competing represented the club very well indeed with the team finishing 7th overall.
