AAI League – Antrim 13 June

Wed 16 June 2010--admin

It was the turn of the senior athletes for a league match, in the All-Ireland Premier Division match at Antrim on Sunday. As with the young athlete’s league, the girls out-shone the men with a fine 2nd place out of 6 teams in their match to Ballymena and Antrim. The men had only a handful of athletes available and were therefore not competitive in their match overall.

There were plenty of top 3 finishes for the CoL ladies including Libby Rose stepping up to the senior 100m Hurdles with a good run for 3rd while Lyndsey Monteith was 3rd in the one-lap hurdles and 2nd in the 1500m. In the sprints Laura Whiteside was 2nd in the 100m with Laura McBurney in the same position in the 200m. Erin McIlveen kept the run going wth 2nd again in the 400m but Rachel Gibson had a great run for 1st in the 800m. Well done to Emma Doherty who had our other individual win on the track in the walk. Finally the girls combined with two excellent runs for two 2nd places in the relays.

In the field, schoolgirl Kathryn Wallace threw well in her first senior hammer competition for 3rd.  Caris Greenwood, who secured a CoL win the previous week in the YAL took 2nd in the Senior discus. In the Jumps Linzi Herron secured the only club win in the field in the high jump with a great 1.65m and was also 3rd in the long jump.

The highlight from the small men’s team was Chris Reynolds, who with 41.82m in 3rd place threw further than he did to win the NI Senior discus title the previous day.

Congratulations to the ladies in particular for an excellent overall performance.
