Lisburn successes at Ulster Schools

Despite incessant rain at the Antrim Forum it was still a memorable day for numerous City of Lisburn athletes at the Ulster Schools on Saturday past, with the hard work in training paying off with titles, medals and Irish Schools qualifying places across the age-groups in both track and field.
The Minor Girls events saw Alix Galbraith take silver in the high jump with 1.34m, missing out on the title on countback only. Madison Bowyer also took silver in a fast 800m wth a well-paced run ahead of Niamh Madden in 6th.
The Junior Girls events saw the consistent Erin Quinn take silver in the in the 100m ahead of Katie Larmour (5th) who will be competitive next year in this age-group. Roseanna McGuckian’s 200m win was outstanding, especially as she also has another at this level. Her time of 26.60s would have won the age-group above! Erin was 3rd in this event. In the hurdles Jane Anderson won in style and with a favourable win would surely have challenged Michelle Rea’s 1984 record. Megan Marrs and Caitlin Rose in 4th and 5th will be challengers next year. Kathyrn Case won the triple jump title by half a metre, also coming very close to the record which she might have claimed with the wind behind her. Roseanna was 3rd in the long jump with 4.92m while Jessica McMaster in 5th made a big breakthrough with a 4.90m PB. In the high jump Jane Anderson cleared a good 1.51m in the rain for 2nd with Megan 5th. Zoe Carruthers finished 6th in the 1500m but is another who will be in the same age-group next year.
In the Inter Girls category following Kathryn Wallace’s hammer silver on Friday night, Caris Greenwood produced a huge 34.31m final round PB to take the discus title with Amanda Mitchell 5th. Anna McIlmoyle has taken a few races to adjust to the 80m hurdles but found her form when it mattered for a great win in a PB of 12.92s into the wind . She also was 3rd in the high jump with 1.57m. Aoibhin McManus just missed out on 5 metres in the long jump with her 4.97m taking bronze. Rebeccah Harvey was 4th in the 1500m.
The Senior Girls events saw Libby Rose take home two individual silvers from the sprint hurdles and long jump. Hollie Johnston was 3rd in the same long jump competition but topped the medal rostrum in the triple jump with a 10.78m jump. Laura McBurney was 2nd in the 100m. Sylvia Rose was just a metre outside the medals in 5th place in the javelin.
Robbie Marrs won the minor boys high jump with 1.42m with Thomas Quinn 3rd. Cameron Kelly was 5th in the 100m and 6th in the shot with an 8.35m PB.
Andrew Hutchinson took home two Junior Boys titles. He won the high jump by 13cm with 1.73m and then in one of the races of the day timed his dip to perfection to win the 80m hurdles in only his 3rd-ever outing over the barriers! Jonny Whan was 5th in the 1500m. Josh Atkinson was a good second place in the Inter Boys discus although 5 metres below his best at 35m. Adam Hill was just outside the medlas in 4th in the 100m hurdles. Tom Jess also took home a silver medal in the discus, from the Senior Boys events.
