The annual Queens v University of Ulster fixture for the “Londonderry Trophy” was staged at the MPT last night in calm and warm conditions. The fixture included an Open Meet with a number of City of Lisburn athletes appearing either for their university or as “guests”.

Two Lisburn team-mates found themselves on opposing teams in the Womens’ 600m, where Lyndsey Monteith ran the better paced race to just edge out Rachel Gibson, 1:42 to 1:44. Also on the track Brendan Murphy took 2nd place in the men’s 300m in 36.54s.

In the mens’ shot NI and Ulster U19 Indoor champion James Megarity pushed his final round effort out to 11.83m for a new PB with the junior implement and 2nd place. Jonny McWhinney also left his best effort to round 4, with his 9.92m which was a new M40 best, leaving him 3rd senior.
