Lisburn ladies in the prizes at Queens 5k

Wed 30 March 2011--admin

Wednesday night saw the local 2011 road racing season kick off with the well-organised Queens 5k. There were nearly 700 finishers plus lots of spectators on the embankment which made for a good atmosphere. This combined with the perfect conditions to make it a very enjoyable event for the 11 City of Lisburn athletes running.

The Lisburn ladies had their eye on a team prize and delivered the goods with a great run for 2nd team. The three scorers were Lisburn debutant Ruth Little (9th in a super 18:56), Heather McLarnon (14th in 19:34) and Rachel Gibson (15th in 19:40), meaning they finished behind only Lagan Valley – a good result in a large high-quality field .

In the age-groups there were more prizes for Lisburn with Fiona Cooke’s 24:19 taking 2nd in the F45 category with team-mate Marie Murphy 3rd in 26:22, meaning all the Lisburn ladies took home something to show for their efforts!

Of the men, Dave Lonnen was first home, with his 18:07 placing him 8th M45. Callum Shaw had  a good run for 18th in the Junior Men with 18:52. Michael McLarnon squeezed under 19 mins with 18:59, and well done to Declan Morgan who reduced his 5k PB to 19:24. Ian Steele was 13th M45 in 20:08 with Peter Shaw running 21:09 for 18th M45 – a position which matches son Callum’s category position! Jonny McWhinney was 30 secs faster than last year here, just missing 22 minutes at 22:04.

Congratulations to the girls who showed the men (again) how it’s done!
