Juvenile Indoor champs day 3

City of Lisburn athletes picked up in Magherafelt today where they left off in the Odyssey two weeks ago with another 8 medals including 5 golds. Day three of the N. Ireland and Ulster Indoor champs saw Lisburn take titles in jumps, throws and on the track bringing the total medal over the three days to 26!
Alix Galbraith was the first Lisburn athlete of the day on the podium, taking bronze in the U13 girls shot with a great 7.82m. Adam Hill took the 1994 high jump gold with a PB of 1.75m and also took silver in the 60m hurdles in 9.49s. Despite a fall on the first lap in her 600m Rebekah Douglas placed 5th overall from 34 athletes and would surely have challenged for the title without her mishap.
Libby Rose joined Ben Fisher in becoming the only Lisburn athlete to claim three individual medals in these championships. Libby’s haul started with silver in the 1994 Long Jump just 3cms behind the winner. She then threw an indoor PB of 9.01m to take the shot title followed by gold in the 60m hurdles to complete her haul and a personal “full house” of track/jump/throw medals. James Megarity claimed his first N.Ireland and Ulster title with a 10.96m final round effort for a PB with the 6k shot.
Many of the above medals were expected, however the possible highlight of the day was Therese Hillman becoming the NI and Ulster U13 60m hurdles champion!. She recorded a swift 11.32 in her heat and while slightly slower in the final still finished a couple of metres clear of the field to leave both her and her mother ecstatic and astonished in equal measures! She’s now looking forward to the All-Ireland championships in two weeks time.
