Indoor PBs at UUJ meet 08 Jan

Mon 10 January 2011--admin

The indoor season kicked off on Saturday afternoon with a well attended meet at the UUJ indoor facility (where electric timing was in operation). Plenty of City of Lisburn athletes took the opportunity to blow away a few cobwebs and measure how their winter training is going.

In the 60m, Erin Quinn will be delighted with a 8.41 PB, a mere 0.01s quicker than she ran at the Indoor Champs last February. Aoibhin McManus was just shy of her best with 8.79 in her heat.

Over the 60m hurdles, Jane Anderson took 0.02 off her best from last year with a convincing win in 9.90, ahead of Kathryn Case who was 2nd U15 girl in her first run over the hurdles indoors. Libby Rose dipped under 10 secs in the Junior Women’s hurdles with a good 9.97 sec PB.

There were loads of PBs in the long jump, starting with Aoibhin McManus who set her best ever indoor figures with 4.84m to take 2nd place. Erin Quinn produced her best ever jump, indoors or out, when placing 3rd in 4.77m. Libby Rose was 4th in 4.76m, an indoor PB by 2cms and Kathryn Case placed 5th with 4.25m.

Talented all-rounder Anna McIlmoyle concentrated on the high jump and was rewarded with a win and an indoor PB of 1.55m ahead of the busy Kathryn Case who was 3rd with 1.35m.

Finally in the shot, Libby Rose was 2nd with an indoor PB with the 4k shot of 8.93m. Aoibhin McManus was 3rd with 7.10m, a good throw in her first competition with the heavier shot.  The U15 girls (3.25k) shot competition was won by multi-eventer Kathryn Case with an indoor PB of 7.38m. Erin Quinn was 2nd with another indoor PB of 7.18m, followed by Katie Larmour and Caitlin Rose who both threw 5.91m indoor PBs. Annie Alexander was 1st U13 girl with 6.29m in her first ever indoor competition.

Overall, a good day’s work by the Lisburn squad and a great appetiser for the indoor championships in the Odyssey next month. Athletes please remember to discuss soon with your coach the events you wish to enter for these championships.
